A burst heater in Camperdown
Joshua was 8 years old. He enjoyed roller skating a lot. This morning, the cold weather had settled down a little and the sun was out. Although it was a little cold, Josh could skate in the crisp morning air for a little while since his dad was in the backyard doing some work on their car.
In a little while, his father called him.
“Josh, could you please go inside and turn off the hot water heater. I thought I heard a hissing sound. Better turn it off”, he said as he peeked from under the car.
Josh ran inside to do as he was told. He did not hear anything. He peeped this way and that. There were no signs of a leak. Maybe his dad had heard something else, he thought as he turned off the gas to the hot water service and left the room.
The next morning, Josh was with his father when they went in to turn on the hot water heater. The hissing noise happened again. Startled, his father turned off the hot water system at once and asked Josh to step back.
Josh’s dad was an excellent handyman but he thought it could be beyond his plumbing ability. Their water heater was fixed at the top of the wall. Since there were metal disks under the heater, there was no damage done. But, his father suspected that the hot water service which was 12 years old may have burst and needed replacing.
“It’s not safe to operate that heater unless we’ve had a plumber check it out and identify the problem”, his dad said.
Fortunately for them, Josh’s dad knew just the right plumber from Camperdown. He belonged to a plumbing network that serviced clients all around the Camperdown area.
The plumber from Camperdown promised to visit their home in under fifteen minutes. ‘Wow, dad. That’s super fast service, isn’t it?” Josh exclaimed. “Sure is, champ.”
The plumber arrived in another ten minutes. “I was just down the road when I got your call. I just finished fixing up a leaking drain there”, the plumber explained as he started working.
Half an hour later, they had the problem sorted. Fortunately, their hot water heater was still good. There were some valves that needed to be replaced. The plumber from Camperdown had cleaned up everything and they tested the hot water system several times.
“You know, you guys are really great. Great service and great timing”, Josh’s father said as he was showing the plumber the door.
“We try to do our best for our customers. That’s the only way to get more business in these hard times”, he explained.
